The Bovis Scale

The Bovis scale is a measure of vitality which is commonly used to determine the life force of a person, a food, a place, or any other object. Its values are expressed in what is known as “Bovis Units”, where a reading is measured based on a single continuum, from negative / depleting at the low end, strongly life-supporting in the middle, to highly spiritual and beneficial at the high end. For subtle energy tools, the Bovis Scale provides us with a simple means of testing, and a shared language for expressing vitality, and from those readings we can determine how beneficial the energy is.

Origins of the Bovis Scale

The scale is named for Antoine Bovis (1871–1947), a French researcher from Nice, France, who studied the invisible forces that animate living things. He worked within the tradition of Radiesthesia - the European practice of detecting subtle energy with dowsing instruments - and built a graduated scale to put a number on vitality. Bovis anchored it to the Ångström, setting 6,500 units as the neutral value of a healthy human being. The French researcher André Simoneton later refined and popularized the method, measuring the vitality of foods and confirming that fresh, living produce reads high while processed and spoiled food reads low.

The 6,500 Neutral Baseline

Every Bovis reading is understood in relation to a single pivot: 6,500 units. That value marks the vitality of a healthy human being and sets the dividing line of the whole scale. Below 6,500 a field is non-beneficial - it draws energy down. At 6,500 a field is neutral, neither adding nor subtracting. Above 6,500 a field is beneficial and life-supporting, and the higher the reading climbs, the more coherent and energizing the field becomes.

Measuring the Vitality of Subtle Energy Tools

What began as a way to gauge food and living spaces extends naturally to the tools of subtle-energy work. Tensor Rings, harmonizers, and related devices generate coherent fields, and the Bovis scale is provides a practical way for us to measure the strength of those fields. A tool that reads well above the neutral baseline is carrying an active, life-supporting field, and a comparative reading between two tools shows which one generates the strongest energetic field. This makes the scale a practical bench test - a way to confirm that a Tensor Ring, Harmonizer, or any other subtle energy devices is doing what’s intended before you rely on it.

Reading the Scale

The scale below runs from 0 to 100,000 Bovis units. Readings climb from very low vitality at the bottom, through the average and healthy range around the neutral baseline, into the high-vitality readings of a charged tool, and up to the exceptional spiritual readings associated with sacred sites - the highest energy the scale measures.

Interpretation
0 – 100Very low vitality
100 – 500Extremely low
500 – 1,000Very low Vitality
1,000 – 2,000Depleted / Stressed
2,000 – 3,000Low vitality
3,000 – 5,000Below average
5,000 – 6,500Slightly below average
6,500Baseline human vitality
6,500 – 7,500Average Human Vitality
7,500 – 10,000Slightly above average
10,000 – 15,000Healthy environment
15,000 – 20,000High vitality
20,000 – 50,000Strong energetic influence
50,000 – 75,000Spiritual / sacred sites
75,000 – 90,000Exceptional readings
90,000 – 100,000Very high spiritual energy

Reading with a Pendulum

A pendulum is a small, balanced weight suspended from a light chain or cord. Held still between the fingers it hangs motionless; held over a question it begins to swing. The movement comes is thought to arise from tiny, involuntary responses in the hand known as the ideomotor effect, by which the pendulum amplifies into a visible signal you can read; however, this is almost certainly the result of a Pendulum serving as a conduit to the subconscious minds ability to pick up on subtle energies that our physical senses are not able to observe directly.

Dowsers have used weighted bobs, forked branches and rods for centuries to find water and minerals. The same tool that once searched for underground springs is now commonly used to test the energetic strength of subtle-energy devices.

Before testing, a being by programming the pendulum by holding it steady, and asking it to spin clockwise for yes, then counter-clockwise for no, and back and forth for neutral / unknown. Observe the motion for each.

With that baseline set, you then hold the pendulum over the tool and observe that it will spin clockwise for positive and counter-clockwise otherwise. You can also explicitly ask “Is this field beneficial?”, or any other question that will hep you gauge its effects. The direction of the swing gives the answer, while the size and speed of the circle reflect how strong the field is. Comparing the response of one tool against another reveals which carries the more coherent field. Typically, when testing Tensor Rings, for example, the circumference of the swing should always be equal to or greater than the circumference of the ring. A faster swing in addition to the width meeting the circumference indicates a strong Tensor Field.

Using a Pendulum with a Bovis Chart

To read an actual Bovis value, the pendulum is used together with a graduated chart - a biometer - laid flat on the table:

  1. Ground and center yourself, and set a clear intention to read the tool’s true vitality.
  2. Calibrate your pendulum’s “yes” and “no” so its responses are unmistakable.
  3. Place the tensor tool on or beside the chart, within reach of the pendulum.
  4. Hold the pendulum over the zero point and let it swing up the scale in search mode.
  5. Watch for the point where the swing settles and turns across the scale - that point is the Bovis reading.
  6. Note the value, then thank the energy and clear both yourself and your pendulum before the next reading.

Reading Bovis units is a skill of radiesthesia: it rewards a calm mind, an honest intention, and steady practice. The more you measure - and the more you compare your readings against tools you already know - the more consistent and trustworthy your results become.
